Alright, this is a little delayed… but here are some snapshots of my year in books for 2018. I want to read an extra 20 books this year and I can’t wait to hit it!

I’ve been a little book crazy this month… mostly with the buying of books over the Christmas sales. But still… it’s all meant that I’ve not only got lots of new books on my shelf, but also lots of new books to sink my teeth into.
Standalone stories

Short story collections

Fieldwork has been picking up, and I have been having anxiety issues. Which makes it more likely that I’ve been reading short stories – they are a quick and easy fix that make me calm down without disappearing into a book for the ENTIRE day…

September has been crazy for me. I have had my major review, I’ve been doing fieldwork. And I’ve had a few social things on. Basically, I have been feeling exhausted, slightly mental, and incredibly productive.

August is always a weird month for me – it’s my baby sister’s birthday and so should be one of my favourite months. But it also seems to be the month in which a lot of not-so-good things have happened in my life. Plus, it’s winter, and I hate being cold and sick, so I have just buried myself in the realm of books…

I start my fieldwork next month (hopefully) which means that I have been spending a lot of time sorting out the things that I need for this. So I’ve found that I’ve read a lot of novellas, and easier tales this month. They’re a great, short way to distract myself. If I get too hooked into a full novel, well, then I seem to struggle to actually put the books down…

This month I have been writing my first paper / literature review for my PhD. I have written my research proposal (somehow scarier than anything I’ve ever done before) and just in general felt overwhelmed and stressed. Which tends to mean I read a little more than usual… so it was kind of good, and kind of not so good…

April started off rocky – I was working a lot and trying to also make great progress on my PhD. For starters, the month started with a long weekend and one of my work mates being sick… But, luckily, I quickly found my flow and managed to get myself back on track.

I started my PhD this month. It’s been a pretty intense and overwhelming period. But, also one of the most exciting and surreal experiences that I’ve looked forward to for a long time!

This month I turned 25… which has made me begin to feel a little old. But that’s okay, because I can still disappear into the world of books…
