Synopsis

The Cartwright triplets – harmony, Destiny, and Storm – are psychic sirens who use their magic for good and their looks for seduction…

Shelter…
Beautiful bad girl Storm Cartwright can be charming when she wants to be. So when she hears the sound of a baby crying every time she’s near Aiden McCloud, she turns on the charm. Because she’s sure the weeping means a child is in need – and that the handsome antiques restorer is the key to finding that helpless child…

…In a Storm.
From the start, Aiden is attracted to Storm. Yet this gorgeous goth girl wont’ stop talking baby nonsense. then Storm sets up a seductive trap, kidnapping him in his very own RV! While Storm follows the sound of the cries, something magical starts happening between her and Aiden. But can they keep the magic alive once Storm finally finds what she’s looking for?

Thoughts

Absolutely adore the idea of having triplets which each have a power in the past, present and future. For Storm, her knowledge and power in the present finally come into use in this story. And I loved it. The ability to track down and save children in danger is kind of amazing. And I love that although she’s completely wrapped up in the present, moments of her past are highlighted as she struggles to find her happily ever after.

Although I really adored this story, it did take me a little while to get into it. Unlike Sex and the Psychic Witch, this didn’t really jump off to an insanely quick start. Probably a little bit insane though… considering it starts with Storm kidnapping Aiden and taking him on an adventure that he is completely not expecting. Still, it didn’t sweep me up like the first book of this series. About six chapters in, it suddenly took off and I was swept away.

Both Aiden and Storm have weird little hang ups in this tale. Although I just found Aiden’s weird. I completely got where Storm was coming from with some of her reluctance. Aiden on the other hand, it felt like he just subscribed to the whole idea of commitment-phobe. Without actually having some serious history which led him to that. I may just be being a little judgy though…

I absolutely adored the ending of this story. Not only are Aiden and Storm close to her sisters (I can’t imagine the triplet being separated), but Storm has also found the children she wanted to rescue. Plus, there is this whole team of psychics who choose to give their time to the finding and rescuing of lost children… of all kinds.

Synopsis

Introducing the Cartwright sisters – Harmony, Destiny, and Storm – triplets and unstoppable psychic seductresses…

She could touch the past…
As the buyer for her sister’s vintage curio shop, Harmony finds her job a challenge, since she has the ability to read objects and learn things about their former owners – even their deepest, darkest secrets. Now, a Celtic ring depicting a man’s empty embrace has led her to the Paxton castle on the coast of Salem, Massachusetts.

He needed her presence…
King Paxton has inherited a haunted money pit of a castle. He must get rid of it before he’s cursed with the same bad luck that has plagued his family for generations. But out of nowhere, a leggy blonde walks in and stop construction, insisting that a witch haunts the place. What Harmony finds is an angry ghost, a disgruntled renovation crew, and a man who could use a harmonic convergence…

Thoughts

Annette Blair is one of those authors that just writes some incredibly sweet, cute, easy readers. And I always forget how much I love her work until the next time I pick up a novel. Sex and the Psychic Witch has a little more sass than her Accidental Witch Trilogy. But in the best way possible – I love Harmony’s ability to stand up for herself in spite of everything she’s put up against.

There is something fun and mystical about twins and triplets, particularly triplets since there is the Triple Aspect of the Goddess and all… but I don’t get to read about them much in my many, many books. I love that this is a trilogy based solely on a set of triplets, each finding their own way to a happily ever after and love. Plus, you can already tell who they’re each going to pair up with. And I do really love the fact that they’re each going to end up with a man who is in his own trio-friendship. It works beautifully – I know that my sister’s eventual partner is going to have to make friends with mine, and I can’t imagine that extra connectivity of being a triplet.

Harmony is an absolute spitfire. I love her penchant for ironic tees. Her ability to give King the message loud and clear, according to what she wears and find a way to hold onto her own identity. Even when she’s being partnered with a man who is ramrod straight, domineering and unwilling to yield. Plus, there’s the whole added complication of an angry ghost.

Sex and the Psychic Witch is a great little love story. But, what I love even more is the fact that there is a supernatural mayday. The preceding trilogy, Accidental Witch Trilogy touched on witchcraft, but it didn’t really use it as a major storyline. This trilogy is going to be quite different, probably because the triplets actually embrace their powers and find a way to work it into their daily lives.

Synopsis

Welcome back to Virgin River with the books that started it all…

FOR THE SECOND TIME IN A YEAR, A WOMAN ARRIVES IN THE SMALL TOWN OF VIRGIN RIVER TRYING TO ESCAPE HER PAST

John “Preacher” Middleton is about to close the bar when a young woman and her three-year-old son come in out of the wet October night. A marine who has seen his share of pain, Preacher knows a crisis when he sees one – the woman is covered in bruises. He wants to protect them, and to punish whoever did this, but he knows immediately that this is more than just instinct. Paige Lassiter has stirred up emotions in this gentle giant of a man – emotions that he has never allowed himself to feel.

Then Paige’s ex-husband turns up in Virgin River. And if there’s one thing the marines’ motto of Semper Fi – always faithful has taught Preacher, it’s that some thigns are worth fighting for.

Thoughts

I started reading this book practically as soon as it landed on my doorstep. After all, I absolutely devoured Virgin River, so I couldn’t wait to find out about Paige and Preacher. Especially since they do feature in the Netflix show. Which I’m kind of obsessed with. Plus, the idea of a storyline dealing with an abused woman isn’t one that I’ve often had the chance to read. I like the fact that so far in this series, the people have some pretty serious damage in their pasts…

In hindsight, I probably shouldn’t have picked this book up when I did. I have a huge to do list, and not much time to complete it. But, I really, really wanted a happy, feel good, easy read. Which is surprising. This story deals with some pretty intense storylines and issues. Yet, the fact that there is a happily ever after for the vast majority of the characters makes it somehow still feel good. I certainly turned the last page with a happy smile on my face… and then drifted off to sleep with lots of happy thoughts in my head.

This is a great slow-burn romance. One of those stories that you know they’ll end up together, but it takes quite a while for that to actually eventuate. It’s nice to read a story in which there isn’t any insta-love. Rather, it’s the kind that is slowly built around trust and communication. The fact that it also is built up around her child and the falling in love doesn’t just involve the woman… the creation of a family in a beautiful, open little town. It’s really a sweet tale.

I love that although the second book in the Virgin River series is about Paige and Preacher, it isn’t really all that focused on them. Yes, they’re still the centre of the storyline, but Jack and Mel still feature quite heavily in their new lies together. As do Rick and Liz, another couple who have faced challenges in the first book. I’ve never read a romance series which reflects so strongly on a past couple, normally they just make a cameo. And, since I really wasn’t quite ready to say goodbye to any of the past couples, it was really nice. Now I’m going to buy more of these books… and the Grace Valley ones too, since they’re often mentioned throughout these two books.

Synopsis

Welcome back to Vrigin River with the book that started it all…

WANTED: Midwife/nurse practitioner in Virgin River, population six hundred. Make a difference against a backdrop of towering California redwoods and crystal clear rivers. Rent-free cabin included.

When the recently widowed Melinda Monroe sees this ad, she quickly decides that the remote mountain town of Virgin River might be the perfect place to escape her heartache, and to reenergize the nursing career she loves. But her high hopes are dashed within an hour of arriving – the cabin is a dump, the roads are treacherous and the local doctor wants nothing to do with her. Realizing she’s made a huge mistake, Mel decides to leave town the following morning.

But a tiny baby abandoned on a front porch changes her plans… and former marine Jack Sheridan cements them into place.

Thoughts

I’ve been obsessing over the idea of buying this book since I binge watched the Netflix show in just over 24 hours. I’ve since watched it twice more… so obviously I was incredibly keen to receive the book. And then I spent the next day in bed, refusing to get up just so I could fully enjoy immersing myself in the joys of Virgin River. There is just something so wonderful about this story that far outstripped the expectations that the Netflix show prompted.

This novel is as brilliant, sweet and kind as I expected. Although there are some kind of serious issues inside the story (a widow and some illegal activities), it is ultimately a pretty good feel good story. There is enough angst to make you hold your breath and keenly turn the next page, but not enough to take away from the joy of the romance. And, after all, this is primarily a gorgeous little romance with a beautiful backdrop of a small town.

I think everyone has wanted to run away and “live the simple life” at some point or other. Not everyone can actually hack it, but I think we all have that desire every now and then. The fact that Mel did so and loved it was a nice little way to enjoy this story. Add to that the fact that she’s an absolute spitfire who works out how to fit into a slightly off-kilter way of living. Honestly, I don’t know if I fell more in love with the town or the characters…

After finishing this book I had a serious, serious book hangover. I pretty much just stared at my piles of books I want to read next for three days. It makes it even worse that the next two book sin the series are going to take a month and a half to get to my doorstep… damn annoying exercise in patience that one.

Irish Monsters

7/7

1. Banshee: In Irish folklore, a banshee is a spirit in the form of a wailing woman who appears to family members to foretell the death of one of their own. This term came to English from the Old Irish term ben side meaning “woman of the fairy mound.” In this context, a mound is the raised earth over a grave.
🍀 Read a book written by a woman OR read a book in which a death occurs OR read a book with a gravestone or cemetery on its cover; post the cover.Cleaving by Julie Powell

2. Abhartach: This truly terrifying dwarf is a cruel tyrant whose magical powers allow him to rise from the grave and wreak havoc as an undead being. He must be killed and then buried upside down to subdue his powers. In alternate iterations of the abhartach myth, this creature drinks the blood of his subjects. Some academics believe that this monster inspired Bram Stoker’s Dracula, which in turn has influenced the modern-day concept of vampires.
🍀 Read a book with a character you consider cruel; briefly tell us why OR read a book with a vampire, or vampires in it OR read a book with anything shown upside down on its cover; post the cover.Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas (the ending of the book. Just. Wow. The ending.

3. Cluricaun: The cluricaun (or cluricaune) is an Irish elf, or perhaps a fairy, in the form of a tiny old man. He exists in a state of perpetual drunkenness and loves to play practical jokes. In his work Fairy and Folk Tales of the Irish Peasantry, W. B. Yeats writes: “Some suppose he is merely the Leprechaun on a spree.”
🍀 Read a book where an older man (65+ years) is part of the plot OR read a book where a lot of drinking is done OR read a book by an author whose first and last initial are in PRACTICAL JOKE.Terra Nullius by Claire G. Coleman

4. Far Darrig: The far darrig (or fear dearg) is a small creature who always wears a red coat and cap. In Irish, his name appropriately translates to “red man.” Thought to be associated with nightmares, this practical joker of a monster delights in stealing babies and leaving changelings in their place. According to folklore, a changeling is an ugly, stupid or strange child left by fairies in place of a pretty, charming child.
🍀 Read a book with a primarily red cover; post the cover OR read a book in which a child is born OR read a book whose title has changed since its original publication; tell us the original name. When He Was Wicked by Julia Quinn

5. Fear Gorta: Fear gorta literally means “man of hunger” in Irish. This supernatural being roams the earth in the form of an emaciated man during times of famine. He begs for food and bestows good fortune on those who help him. Fear gorta can also refer to a weedy grass that, when stepped on, is believed to make men unnaturally hungry.
🍀 Read a book marked “Foodie Fiction” or “Food,” OR read a book with an expanse of grass on its cover; post the cover OR read a book in which a character always seems to be hungry; tell us who. – Romancing Mister Bridgerton by Julia Quinn

6. Sluagh: The sluagh (or slua) are ghosts of sinners, who, unwelcome in heaven or hell, must haunt the realm of the living. Some souls were designated as sinners because they’d never been baptized; others earned their sinner status through evil and corrupt behavior in their lifetimes. From the Irish word meaning “crowd,” the sluagh were thought to move through the sky in flocks, collecting the souls of the dying.
🍀 Read a book with a plural word in its title OR read a book with any type of ghost in it OR read a book with three or more similar items on its cover; post the cover.Break No Bones by Kathy Reichs

7. Ellén TrechendThe Cath Maige Mucrama is a story written in Middle Irish dating from the 8th or 9th century. In this tale, the ellén trechend, a horrifying three-headed monster, emerges from a cave on a rampage of destruction. Though translators agree that the ellén trechend has three heads, they disagree on what genus of monster it is. Some interpret it to be a bird or a vulture. Others believe the ellén trechend to be a fire-breathing dragon-like creature. Either way, you can rest easy; the beast was eventually slain.
🍀 Read a book that is third in a series; tell us the series name OR read a book with a “3” in its original year of publication; tell us the original date OR read a book where the first letter of each title word may be found in “ELLEN TRECHEND;” a,an,the DO count, 3 word minimum. An Offer from a Gentleman by Julia Quinn (The Bridgertons #3)
