Synopsis

What couple could be more unlikely than a sassy, independent President’s daughter who doesn’t know when to keep her mouth shut and a longer Coyote Breed with a hunger for a cute rosebud mouth that he’s determined to still.

Kiowa’s job is to watch Amanda, the President’s daughter – look, but not touch. just make sure the Secret Service detail assigned to protect her does their job until the new Breed Law is passed. But when the bad guys move in to take her out, Kiowa reluctantly slips i to the rescue, snatching Amanda away to safety. But she isn’t going to come easy and it takes mroe than smooth talking to make her see his point of view.

For a man who’s had nothing, Amanda Marion is food for hte hunger that has tortured him, the reality to every dream Kiowa never dared believe in. What he feels for her is more than heat, more than love. She breathes life into his hardened heart, melting the icy chill and touches a part of him that he thought had died – his soul. And now he’ll kill anyone who tries to take her away from him.

But the one person he can’t fight is Amanda, and when she wants to leave…

Thoughts

This was a bit of a quicker and less conspiracy-theory based story than the other Breeds novels so far. But, it did introduce the idea of the Coyote Breed, and the fact that people of minority groups, such as Native Americans, were kidnapped in this world to create the Breeds. Which meant that although this novel wasn’t as intense in the overall series as many of the others, it was still wonderfully brilliant. And completely impossible to put down.

As with all of the Breeds books, this one just made my toes curl. And left me with a huge grin on my face. There is something a little bit extra lustful and guilty-pleasure-like about this series. Something that always makes me check over my shoulder and spreads a blush across my cheeks because I don’t want anyone to take a peek at what I’m reading. I love that in a good romance and add to that the fact that it’s just generally well written… well, I’m seriously falling hard for these books.

Kiowa’s story really made my heart break. None of the breeds have good background stories, but the way he was treated by his own blood… it just made everything feel that much worse. It also stopped me from wanting to put down this book at all. I had to find out about Kiowa’s happily ever after. After all, he’s already been abandoned and destroyed by his own blood, so you need to know that Amanda is going to stick with his bullshit and they’ll get their happily ever after.

Amanda was such a wonderful female lead in this story. Kiowa and Amanda are a little bit more into the DomSub stuff in the bedroom… but she’s also more than capable of standing on her own two feet when the world requires it. This great juxtaposition helps her to kick Kiowa’s butt when he needs it and get the respect that all women deserve. Whilst still enjoying the benefits of his dominance in the bedroom… 😉

5th sentence, 74th page: And now Kane was sleeping deep and painlessly while she paced the room, kicking herself for her own lack of control.

Synopsis

They’ve waited a decade to come together. Long years filled with unbearable pain and soul-wrenching torment that have changed them both and left wounds that have laid their souls bare. Wounds that stand one chance of healing – if only they could stop fighting each other long enough for the truth to work its healing balm.

Kane, a relentless warrior, lost more than his heart to Sherra in a night of mating passion that marked them both for life. But news of her death ripped his soul apart. For years he has fought to avenge the death of the woman he loved more than his own life, by revealing the deceit and cruelty of the Council that created the Breeds

But Sherra didn’t die, and now amid the rapidly escalating violence against the Feline Breeds, Kane and Sherra learn that there’s more to mating than just the “heat,” just as there’s more to love than just the sex…

Thoughts

Ever since reading Tempting the Beast, I’ve been really intrigued to find out more about Kane and Sherra’s story. There are hints and bits and pieces throughout the next two novels in this series that highlight how great a story it’s going to be. And very, very many hints about what really went wrong between these two. But until I actually had the chance to read this story… wow.

Although this novel had the same intensity and erotica as the other Breeds novels, there was a little more heart break and heart wrenching than the other stories. The horrors that have been committed against the female breeds start to rear their ugly, horrifying heads. And pull my heart apart even more. After all, some of the horrors that are mentioned in this story are exactly the things that I am most afraid of. I’m just glad they don’t go into too much detail.

I always find in a series, particularly romance series which focus on different couples each novel, by the third or fourth novel, things start to get… intense. And that’s exactly what happened here. Now, there is more at stake in each story than the happiness and the livelihood of the couples. Rather, war is declared and things are steadily getting deadlier and deadlier. I can’t wait to see how everything progresses from this point forward!

Kiss of Heat is a phenomenal paranormal romance novel. One that I read cover to cover in one sitting and thoroughly enjoyed. It makes me not only keen to read more Breeds novels. But left me with some very… wonderful dreams later that night.

Series: Breeds #3

Dates read: 28th – 29th December 2020
Pace: Fast
Format: Novel
Publisher: Berkley

5th sentence, 74th page: Even his balls tightened at the smell.

Synopsis

New York Times bestselling author Lora Leigh returns to the “highly charged and carnal” (Fresh Fiction) world of her Breeds novels with an expanded edition of Elizabeth’s Wolf, a paranormal romance that awakens the beast within…

Special Forces soldier Dash has all but given up his will to live – until an innocent letter from a little girl brings him back to life. Cassie writes to him every week, strengthening his resolve to recover from the devastating loss of his unit. But when the letter suddenly stop arriving, Dash instinctively knows Cassie and her mother are in critical danger.

Elizabeth and her daughter are on the run from a dark and bloody past that refuses to let them go. The stakes are too high for Elizabeth to fall for this dangerous man who just walked into her life, but, now more than ever, she needs help.

Saving his mate and her daughter calls Dash’s beast to the forefront and transforms the lone wolf into an alpha protector; he becomes Elizabeth’s wolf.

Thoughts

The Breeds series is one that I have a bit of a tendency to pick up, and then put back down again. Not because it isn’t amazing. But it is most definitely graphic. And not the kind of books that I like to read with other people around… there’s a little too much toe-curling spice in it to have witnesses to my reading. Which means that its been quite a while since I picked up a Breeds novel.

Elizabeth’s Wolf may be my favourite Breeds novel yet. It was a little bit more romantic and relationship based than the others. Less of that raw, animalistic frenzy to mate. Which, whilst enjoyable, is a little bit intense. Instead, Elizabeth and Dash work slowly towards trust. And, whilst they do start ripping each other’s clothes off with abandon, it takes that little bit longer.

There is something gorgeous about a child setting up their parent and creating their happily ever after. Somehow, Cassie is much, much better at this and more manipulative than most of the children I’ve had in my other romances who do this. So much better at it. And a lot more entertaining. She’s an absolute delight and often steals the show. Which makes her backstory and all of the horrible things that happen to her that much more heart wrenching.

I could not get enough of the emotional rollercoaster that this novel took me on. It had all of the fun emotions in it that I’m used to in some of my favourite books. And although it was still erotic and incredibly graphic, the greater build up to these moments made me want it that much more. And seriously helped me to fall further in love with all of the characters.

Synopsis

Isabelle Martinez was instantly fascinated by the sexy Coyote Breed she met at the bar, but her sensual flirtation with him was cut short when she saw the man who’d attacked her arrive at the bar.

Breed enforcer Malachi Morgan was entranced by Isabelle’s mix of shyness and boldness, and he was determined to chase and play with his sensual prey. But he could tell she’d been hurt before by a man, and he vowed that Isabelle was now his to protect and love, even as if it meant going against her family and his orders.

Thoughts

I always find the Breeds stories a little bit intense. I mean, Leigh is a master of erotic penmanship. But then, every time I read a novella in this series, I can’t help but race to pick up the next book in the series and get myself all hot and bothered again. There is just something… incomparable to this series. And An Inconvenient Mate is no different.

This was my first introduction to the Coyote Breeds. I’m completely intrigued, and can’t wait to get into Soul Deep, the first novel in the series which focuses on the Coyote Breeds. I love how they are formulated and created in this world. It is very different to all of the shapeshifter lore I have sunk my own literary teeth into.

Ultimately, this was a fantastic, wonderful story. One that I will probably reread when I get up to that point in the series. It is wonderfully lustful, and yet kind of sweet. There is something about the idea of a perfect mate that makes me smile. I didn’t really get a Christmassy vibe from this. But I did most definitely get one of love.

Thoughts

I quite enjoyed this collection. I bought it because for one of my yearly reading challenges, I needed a book with handcuffs on the cover. And I was happily, presently surprised by how much I enjoyed this. A good dose of erotica, and a great many romantic suspense stories left me in my happy place.

It’s been a little while since I read much romantic suspense. In fact, it’s an area of romance that I’m starting to get more and more into. It was nice to find three more authors and two more series to add to that section on my shelves.

Some aspects in these three novellas are pretty intensely erotic and sexual. But, there are also moments of pure sweetness that help to balance this. It creates a fantastic balance that draws you in and keeps you turning that pages.

Synopsis

When Deputy Marshal Jared Cameron investigates a series of arson attacks in a seaside town, the biggest blast of heat comes from sexy fire inspector Darcy Michaels—until their scorching after-hours affair is compromised by a secret from Darcy’s past.

Thoughts

This was an incredibly fast-paced, heart-pumping novella. It was a little gritty, a lot of fun and incredibly intriguing. It had my heart pumping, my breath catching and my jaw clenching. Which is everything that you want in a romantic suspense novella. There was also some lovely, hot, steamy sex… which was just a little bit toe curling.

This novella starts out strong – it starts with an arson investigation and the obvious point that there is someone preying upon this small town. And then it just gets more and more intense from there. There is the history of Darcy’s sister that is quickly unraveled. The jealousies of multiple men. And just a great, big mystery behind it all. I spent the whole time trying to figure out who the actual culprit was… and was completely blind sided when the bad person was finally revealed. Not the person I expected at all.

One issue I did have with this novella was that I really and ultimately couldn’t figure out the actual motives behind the crimes. I understood parts of it, but other parts were just confusing. I think it drove home the fact that they were just certifiably nuts. But I still wanted a much more in depth explanation…

Synopsis

Flint is tall, gorgeous and dangerous. He’s a cyborg-the absolute ultimate alpha male. He takes what he wants and holds what is his. Mira is his now. He takes her aboard his ship and has her branded with his mark. He captured her, owns her, and she will serve his every need.

Mira is instantly drawn to Flint, fascinated by his seductive appeal. The sex between them is smoking hot. Until she finds out he is a breeder, contracted to a dozen cyborg women, and she is no more than a possession.

Mira won’t share her cyborg and she belongs to no one-not even to a man who has captured her heart. She doesn’t know if cyborgs feel… anything. Can Flint love her? Mira is determined to find out, no matter how much trouble she makes for the big guy.

Thoughts

As with some of the more erotic romances I’ve been reading lately, I finished this with mixed feelings. Mostly because it was a little too pushy and filled with moments in which Mira didn’t actually have a choice. Actually, my favourite part of this story was when she threatened to jump, because she was at her wits end. It was the only moment of real fight that she displayed and FINALLY made the stupid, pig headed male in this story sit up and pay attention to what she was saying. And yet, for all of that pushiness that I was really uncomfortable with, I did, ultimately enjoy this story…

This is my second series by Dohner that I’ve started. And although she definitely seems to like the alpha male trope, this one definitely took that to the next level. Flint literally kidnaps Mira because he’s decided he wants her. There is literally no choice. I mean, it all ends well, they fall in love and ya da ya da ya da. But, really, the whole I’m going to kidnap you and own you… not what I would call a healthy, happy beginning to a relationship. Not really sure that there is a happy healthy ending either, but that’s a little less clear…

I think the reason that I enjoyed this story so much, even though it was filled with aspects that I seriously didn’t agree with… was the fact that Dohner is an awesome writer. She manages to draw you in from that very first moment and make you feel emotionally bonded with both of the characters… even the ones that aren’t exactly of the mould that I would like. There is just something about Dohner’s writing that works for me…

Although I have many, many issues with this story. I still really enjoyed it. Major guilty pleasure here. And just because of that, and the brilliance of Dohner’s writing… I’m actually looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series. a nice way to curl up late at night and make my self weirdly uncomfortable.

Synopsis

Just this once…

On the trail of a serial killer, vampire Quentin Albermarle is mistaken for the killer by a police special task force. Once the smoke clears, Quentin finds himself in a delicious position–atop one of the unit’s crack officers, Darcy Henry. In need of Quentin’s access to the vampire sub-culture, the task force leadership invites Quentin to join the crime unit as a special advisor, much to the chagrin of the men in the unit, and especially, of Darcy.

Caught between opposing forces, vampire and hunter…

A no-nonsense cop with no time for romance, Darcy suddenly finds herself embroiled in a steamy love triangle between her mortal partner, Joe, and the handsome vampire. Going from abstinence to wantonness, she is unable to resist the two men’s relentless seduction or her own sensual curiosity about a vampire’s special “kiss”.

A hunger like no other…

When the real killer threatens the life of someone close to her, Darcy makes a choice that forever binds the three of them together.

Thoughts

I really don’t know what it is about these books. They both make me seriously uncomfortable and seriously addicted. They’re the kind of seriously guilty pleasure that I pull out when I’m home alone, curled up with a cup of coffee and absolutely no one around to ask me what I’m reading about. Because I’m not good at lying… and saying m/f/m or anal sex is just not the conversation I want to have with people.

At the very beginning, I did really enjoy Darcy’s quandary – after a man drought, she had her pick of two amazing male specimens. A gorgeous, sexually charged vampire, or her gorgeous, loyal partner. It quickly gets really intense and confusing though. Darcy is constantly pulled between the two moronic males and, honestly, I almost put this book down so many times because of their stupid, alpha bullshit. Yet, every time I was pushed to the limit, something happened so that I felt like the story was redeemed.

One of the things about this book that I found the most uncomfortable was Quentin’s domineering nature. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely adore a tough man in the main role… but this took it to a whole other, darker place. One that made me feel seriously uncomfortable. And, honestly, made some of the aspects of the story feel a little rapey. Yet, there was always that moment that somehow managed to make it less… well, like assault. I really don’t know how Devlin is able to walk that seriously fine line and make me feel… not totally okay with this story, but a lot less uncomfortable. And I’ve already bought the next ebook for the next time I’m feeling lonely late at night… so she walks that line quite nicely.

It’s kind of hard to write a review for this. I enjoyed it, and will be reading the next book in this series. But I finally, truly understand the meaning of “guilty pleasure”. I mean, this is the absolute epitome of guilty pleasure… it is not the kind of book that I will be able to recommend to my family and friends. I’m just not sure that they would understand the pleasure aspect of reading this erotic novel…

Synopsis

Emmy Harris knows she’s not perfect. She has a little extra padding and isn’t the brightest bulb, but you’d think she was a sexy rock star the way everyone at a certain night club treats her from the moment she walks through the door. In fact, the two sexiest men there can’t seem to keep their hands off her, until one of them sweeps her away to his private domain. A girl like her isn’t going to waste a chance like that! So he’s a little rough and likes to take a nibble or two while he pleasures her. For a girl who didn’t know she’d never experienced a full-blown orgasm before, Dylan’s eccentricities are delicious!

Dylan O’Hara only wants a night of passion to slake his lusts, but finds Emmy is a full-bodied, red-blooded siren whose innocence and humor draw this Master vampire like a moth to a red-hot flame. When Emmy attracts the attention of a serial-killing vampire, Dylan vows to protect her, but he fears he’ll lose Emmy once she discovers he’s not human.

Thoughts

I have some very mixed feelings about this story. Whilst reading it, I kind of couldn’t put it down. But I also felt weirdly uncomfortable reading it. I’m not entirely certain why. But there was definitely discomfort. It may have a lot to do with the fact that this was an eBook though. I just can’t seem to get into eBooks as much as physical books…

The storyline in this book is fairly so so. Its not one of those impossible to put down, impossible to forget stories. Not fast-paced or full of action. But it is full of lust. It is a wonderful story, completely filled with the joys of lust and I certainly enjoyed it. The graphic nature of the writing made the lust and the passion just jump off of the pages. Certainly not a story that you want to read in front of your family and friends… it’s a little too private for that.

One of my favourite things about this book is that Emmy is curvy. She doesn’t look anything like a model, and, in fact, finds it quite hard to believe that she could even be beautiful. She is, of course, frequently described as sexy and beautiful by her paramour and others, but I like that she’s not considered to be modelesque. Definitely a great take on a romance lead.

Trying to write this review is kind of difficult. It was a really fun read, and I have already bought the next book in the series, and have it sitting on my kobo ready to go. But it wasn’t one of my all-time favourite books. It was an easy read that I thoroughly enjoyed and would probably read again. But mostly because the ease of it means that it’s quite easy to forget what happened, so it would be like reading it all over again.

Synopsis

The New York Times bestselling author of the Mageverse novels makes her wildest moves yet in Wicked Games…

Anglea Knight’s reimagining of the Arthurian elgend in her Mageverse novels has been praised as “inventive, livey, and sexy as hell”. Now, in Wicked Games, she delivers an all-new novella, and a sensual new kick, to her Mageverse world. In a revealing prequel that draws together Arthur, Lancelot, and Guinevere in an explosive triangle, she sets the stage for the Mageverse magic, for the masterful men, and for the beautiful women who live to serve, outwit, and bewitch them

Plus! Angela Knight at her provocative best in two bonus novellas that have previously appeared in a different form…

In Bondage, Beauty and the Beast, lovely Brianne is sold as a bondslvae to Lord Ardolf Greycastle. Ardolf needs Brianne to break the spell that turned him into a beast, but to do that he must win her love even as he dominates her without mercy.

When female Confederate spy Rose Carson seduces a handsome Union Officer in A Question of Pleasure, it is only to gather secrets. She never expected to fall in love, or to submit to his extreme demands when he discovers her duplicity.

Thoughts

This is definitely not a collection for the faint of heart. It’s pretty graphic and intense. Although, to be fair, Knight does warn the reader of that in her introduction. She admits that some of this is seriously intense and based on the approach to the genre in the past. Which isn’t exactly PG or really all that great to women at times… I love that this book comes with a warning though. Not only did it make me laugh, but it was also great to know exactly what I was getting into before turning the first page… and to know that you probably shouldn’t read this in public.

To be honest, although this is a collection of three stories, it’s almost one novel with two short stories thrown in. The Once and Future Lover is almost one close to full-length novel. It’s filled with chapters, an intense storyline and a great journey that you won’t want to put down. The next two stories are much shorter and a little quicker to get through. Although, I actually found them a lot more intense than the first story… maybe because there was no gradual build up to the BDSM.

Every story in this is erotic and intense. There is BDSM, anal and a lot of other sexual choices that I wasn’t really aware of. Definitely an enjoyable eye-opener, just one that I don’t think I’ll be sharing with my friends and family at any point soon.
