Thoughts

This collection is filled with three very fun and cute contemporary romance stories. They took me on a great summer journey that left me smiling and believing in true love. It was a wonderful way to spend a few afternoons, filling my time with novellas of cuteness and romance.

I could most definitely imagine reading this collection on the beach somewhere. Enjoying the romances and the adventures of the characters. Sadly, I didn’t get the privilege of reading this on the beach. But everytime I turned a page, I just imagined that I was there anyway.

I already knew that I love Foster and McCarthy. Garvey was an entirely new author for me. One that I found I unexpectedly enjoyed. They took me on some wonderful adventures that I will probably repeat again in the future.

Thoughts

The play on words in this story is kind of fun – Lucius, Luscious. I mean, it’s the kind of silly, slightly nonsensical, but seriously fun thing that I would do myself. Particularly if the man was as dreamy as the lead man in this story. I mean… who wouldn’t want a SWAT cop beating down their door to make delicious, wonderful love to them?

I can’t imagine being a twin. I was always really nervous just introducing people to my incredibly beautiful younger sister, but being an identical twin and having the same hang ups? That’s just… horrifying. I love that Foster was able to deal with this really intense feeling of inadequacy that I think we all feel in a way that was open, honest and completely approachable. I may not be a twin, but there are definitely women in my life that I was worried about introducing my partner to – just in case he liked them better…

Admittedly, the idea of a pet psychic seems a little… odd. But, Marci is also a lovely character, so the oddness decreases. The fact that she’s not even the lead lady in this just makes me hope that there is another story in which Marci finds her happily ever after. Lucius and Bethany are such an amazing couple, and I love that Marci is still included in their relationship. After all, when you have a sister, the guy you bring home doesn’t just have to form a relationship with you… they have to form it with the people you love too.

Thoughts

I read a few Christmas anthologies at the same point at the end of 2020, and this was most definitely the sweetest of them. It was very cutesy. And kind of completely adorable. There is something hopeful about Christmas Eve, or the night before Christmas. Something that always feels filled with potential. I feel like it never truly is… but it always feels like it could be.

I only knew two of the authors when I started this collection. It was a lovely, pleasant surprise when I discovered the other four. I’ll most definitely have to do some research and add some more of their books to my wish list. Not that I really need to add any more to my wish list… considering how damn big and kind of out of control that thing is…

The Night Before Christmas helped to cure a little bit of that humbug in me and remind me what it is about Christmas that I normally love. It was filled with more cute and sweet stories than lustful ones. And was just generally a seriously enjoyable and easy way to spend a few nights in the lead up to the festive season.

What a fun and glorious little collection. Jingle Bell Rock is filled with six wonderful novellas that remind you that around Christmas time…anything is possible.

These are incredibly light-hearted and fun novellas. They feature people from all walks of life. People with different goals, desires and love. The thing that unites them all? Love and the festive season.

This year, I really needed something to get me feeling a little more of that holiday spirit. So I picked up a collection of anthologies off my shelves which feature Christmas and the holidays. This was most certainly one of the sweetest and cutest of the collections. There was a little bit of lust, but, ultimately I loved the fact that this was just so incredibly cute.

Thoughts

I’m not generally a huge fan of stories which feature that gooshy love at first sight kind of thing. Even though it’s something that I’ve experienced, I still struggle to really connect to it. I tend to prefer the stories which are friends to lovers or enemies to lovers, or some such. After all, these relationships are based upon a solid foundation. Yet, Foster is able to still have that kind of feeling in this story without frustrating me. Without making me feel like it’s a bit bleugh. White Knight Christmas may not specifically be a love at first sight kind of story, but it’s certainly got that hopeful feel to it.

I loved the whole trope of Grinch falls in love with woman who is completely what Christmas is all about. Giving, love and cheer. This year I’m probably more Grinch than anything, but this definitely made my cold little heart grow a few sizes when I read it. There is just something wonderfully joyful and festive about this kind of storyline. One that had me smiling long after I turned that final page.

White Knight Christmas is a very fun, light and easy read. It is a great way to get back into the Christmas spirit and highlights how love is a wonderful thing. I found it a little far fetched that love could make a cop forget all of his cynicism, but it was such a great idea. I would most definitely read this novella again next Christmas.

Thoughts

There is something about the Dean Brothers that is kind of fun. So having Booker fall in love with the girl next door (literally) and cementing the deal over Christmas… it made me weirdly happy and content. I’ve struggled to get into the Christmas spirit this year, and for some reason, this novella was absolutely perfect to hit that feeling.

One of my favourite romance tropes is the whole friends to lovers one. After all, the individual generally knows what they are getting themselves in for when they start to become involved with a friend. I know that I certainly did. I also love that this all happened at Christmas. Plus, there is the whole way in which Booker ends his last relationship, which just had me laughing out loud.

I absolutely adored this novella. It was fun, light and full of hope. Just what I needed to finish out this somewhat crappy year…

There is just something incredibly sexy about a man in a suit. So a collection of three novellas by some of my favourite authors that feature men in suits… yeah, I’ll get on board with that! Especially on those late nights when I’m alone on the couch… yeah, don’t judge me… 😊

There is no doubt – I’m definitely going to read this short story collection again. Not just because all three novellas were amazing independently, but because they were actually amazing together as well. It was just a fantastic collection. One that reminded me what it is that made me fall in love with contemporary romance so recently…

Upon finishing this collection, I felt happy, content and just a little bit hopeful for the future. Exactly what I look for in a collection of contemporary romance short stories. Definitely one I’ll be recommending to anyone who asks!

Thoughts

This is such a sweet, adorable and cute novella. It was an easy read and one that I really liked delving into right before I turned the lights out for the night. Pleasant dreams abound after reading this gorgeous little novella. It’s one of those stories that reminds you that love exists. In all places and at all times. And, that sometimes it’s the person you most think is unsuited that happens to be your perfect soulmate…

I love that all through this novella, you know both of the characters have feelings for each other. They’re a little too scared to tell each other, but at least there is no wondering about the depths of their feelings and the legitimacy of them. It makes the storyline a little extra sweet and fun. And incredibly difficult to not want to rush forwards to that inevitable moment when they do get together.

Although the romance takes centre stage, I also loved the dynamics in Cassidy’s family. Not only does she advocate for her little sister and try to make sure that her parents accept her relationship and the man that she loves. But there is also the discussion in this story surrounding the different ways in which children are talked about. Cassidy is always disappointed because she’s not considered “beautiful”, but Holly is always a little sad that she’s not considered “sensible”. I loved that this disjoint in the ways that two sisters view each other and themselves is built upon by such innocent compliments.

A great little novella. Light, fluffy and an absolute joy to read.

Thoughts

This is one of those great, easy, relaxed reads that is just perfect for an afternoon out in the sunlight. The title kind of hints at that. But after reading it, I can attest that it is most definitely a perfect read for the beach. A nice departure from the more intense reads I do tend to fill my shelves with.

Each and every one of these six novellas is incredibly easy to imagine reading at the beach. Sadly, I haven’t been to the beach in a year or two…. But it certainly helped me to imagine doing so. Not only were most of the stories set along the coast, but they also had that chilled, carefree feeling that I tend to associate a day down on the sand with. The fact that they were also contemporary romances with a  great dose of humour… it was kind of fantastic.

I loved the fact that I recognised half the authors in this collection and found three new authors as well. I loved being able to revisit some of the styles of writing that I haven’t visited in a little while. And also find some new writing that I just wasn’t expecting. I loved each and everyone of these authors and their stories. Both standalones and parts of a series.

The cover of this collection mentions “bad boys”. There are none. Categorically so. There are no bad boys in this collection. There’s accountants and lawyers and sexy men with no clue how to treat the woman they love (until they get a kick up the ass). But no bad boys. Not that that’s a bad thing. Sometimes the bad boy trope is kind of overdone, and it was nice to have a different theme to pursue.

Thoughts

This was an incredibly cute and easy novella. A good read at the end of a long day and one that I thoroughly enjoyed. It started out a little tedious… but then it gained traction. And was actually quite cute. Not the kind of story that will get your pulse racing, but one that makes you smile that happy, secret little smile.

At the beginning, I found Cary a little bit annoying. He was a little too stalkerish for my liking. I really don’t understand this whole idea of “romance” that focuses on men who won’t take no and somehow that’s romantic. I mean, seriously… if I tell you no. It’s a no. There is nothing coy and playful about that for me. Yet, once the story unfolded, it kind of became a little less stalkerish. Mostly because Nora actually appreciates it and there is true love. Ya da. Ya da. It’s still somewhat problematic though when you think about it…

I did like Nora though. She was super sweet and innocent. A little too much, but it was a nice balance to the super painful, pushy persona of Cary. Mostly, I found a lot of this storyline problematic. But yet, there was something about it that still worked beautifully. Something I just enjoyed. Even if I was constantly questioning why…
