Title: Riding Bitch Author: K.W. Jeter In: Inferno (Ellen Datlow) Rating Out of 5: 4 (Really good read!) My Bookshelves:Horror Pace: Medium Format: eBook, Short story Year: 2007
Riding Bitchjumped around a little in its timeline, but overall had a pretty uncomfortable, dark vibe to it throughout. I kind of loved it too. The fact that it took me a little while to figure out what was going on from the bar to the past just added to that spooky and uncomfortable feeling. Which, of course, is what made me thoroughly enjoy reading this.
It was really hard to tell what was reality and what wasn’t throughout this tale. I mean, it involved drugs, speeding and gross bodily transportation. You don’t want to believe that everything within this is reality, but then, it felt like the majority of it was. I loved this blurring of fiction and reality throughout.
This short story left me feeling eerily uncomfortable. I can’t really explain why, but I definitely had goosebumps. Which is kind of why I enjoy reading horror short stories.
In these 19 evocative pieces of short fiction, best-selling and award-winning writers tackle such intriguing issues as sex by telepathy, the pick-up scene on other planets, and making love with Superman. Thought-provoking, often shocking, always entertaining, Alien Sex daringly explores those barriers between men and women that can make them seem so “alien” to one another. Probing the current and future state, shape, and complex problems of the human male/female relationship, this fantastic collection will make you think about sex in a whole new way.
This is the single most uncomfortable thing I’ve ever read. Like wow uncomfortable. And not in bits and pieces. But pretty much every single story in this was uncomfortable. Not that that’s bad. But it’s very hard to read a book quickly when you know that things aren’t going to be, well, pleasant. Which makes it incredibly WOW to read. I suggest this to everyone who loves their science fiction.
This collection seriously makes you think about the world around you and how we perceive it. More importantly, it repeatedly makes you question sex, our approaches to sexuality and even how we deal with the opposite gender. And sometimes even questions of gender. By using these insane, far out storylines, it makes you seriously consider this aspect of our lives.
Sex is really weird. I don’t know that anyone can argue that it isn’t. Using science fiction and aliens just helps to highlight that fact. And kind of act as enlightenment for a number of my own practices and beliefs. Definitely an interesting collection…
Title: The First Time Author: K.W. Jeter In: Alien Sex (Ellen Datlow) Rating Out of 5: 3.5 (Liked this) My Bookshelves:Aliens, Lust, Science fiction Dates read: 21st October 2019 Pace: Slow Format: Short story Publisher: ROC Year: 1990 5th sentence, 74th page: All the other stuff was just what he’d been dreaming.
Everyone remembers their first time. Although I don’t think that this young boy really wants to remember his first time. Especially when it was so… gruesome.
Everyone’s first time is memorable. I just hope that it’s
not memorable like this… because this is just downright, horrifyingly
disturbing. Makes me incredibly glad for my awkward, uncomfortable “first
time”… at least it wasn’t like this!!!
I am completely fascinated by the human body, our inner
workings and what makes us tick. It’s probably why I love medical shows so
much… they’re pretty good at exploring that aspect of my fascination. Yet, this
short tale has kind of put me off for the time being… there’s fascination. And
there’s just this. This horrifying level of ick… but I want share too much more
because it’s well worth a read and you need the surprise like I had it!
Like so many stories in the Alien Sex collection, this is super weird and super uncomfortable. Which of course means, I kind of loved it. it was brilliant and entertaining. Dark and twisted. And really made me think a little more about my own “first time”.
