Thoughts

I’m not normally a huge fan of BDSM stories, although, I’m trying to read more and more of them to get myself out of my comfort zone. And honestly, this was the perfect introduction into the genre. It wasn’t too intense, but still had elements of BDSM. Plus, the character connections and development were brilliant. Honestly, I loved the sexuality of the story, but I loved the characters and them finding their happily ever after even more.

Rainie’s life is incredibly tragic and the more you get to know about her, the sadder it becomes. However, throughout all of her tragedy, she grows to become a wonderful human being. One who is strong and independent, but inherently capable of a lot of love and kindness. The fact that she’s also incredibly adept at organisation and her job just drove home the wonderful nature of Rainie and how much I wanted her to have a happily ever after.

Doms might not quite be the thing that get my motor running, but Jack is… actually sexy for a Dom and definitely had me intrigued from the very beginning. He is kind and caring, and completely sweet. Although, still with that full on Dom personality that is… overwhelming, even when it’s just words on a page leaping into my brain.

I enjoyed this novella way more than I expected, and now I can’t wait to read more of Sinclair’s writing. And honestly, just exploring more of this genre of writing.

Thoughts

I enjoyed this anthology more than I enjoyed 1001 Dark Nights: Bundle One, but it still wasn’t a collection in which I loved every single novella. Rather, I found that I adored two and was a bit meh about two. Still enough to make me want to continue reading through these anthologies – there are some wonderful gems and new authors to discover with just a turn of the page.

The stories within this collection are fairly intensely sexual at times. Which, depending on my mood and the style in which they are written, can be thoroughly enjoyable, or a little bit too intense. I always love to put myself in uncomfortable mindsets when reading. It’s how I learn and grow. Some of these might even be the kind of uncomfortable I enjoy on a second reading.

Although some of these stories were a little intense, I also loved that all four of them have a common thread. All four of these novellas featured some kind of Dom/Sub relationship, but they were also filled with love and respect, something I really enjoyed. I can’t wait to continue with these anthologies and keep pushing my comfort levels.

Thoughts

There was something that kept pulling me back into this story. It was one that I kept going to DNF, but then a moment would pull me right back in, so I couldn’t quite put it down. I’m glad that I read it. But there were definitely way too many unanswered questions at the end of this. And I probably wouldn’t read it again, but it was still a good story that kept pulling me in.

I found Jenson a little too aggressive for my tastes. I like my men to be a little alpha. But he was a little bit too intense. I get that sometimes people like bodice rippers, but they’re definitely not to my taste. And Jenson is the perfect lead for that genre of story.

Danny was a really fun and enjoyable lead though. She had so many layers and was really easy to follow. Probably the main reason that everytime I felt unsure about this story, I dived straight back in. I did want a bit of a better happily ever after for her though…

Azagoth: A Demonica Novella by Larissa Ione

Title: Azagoth: A Demonica Novella
Author: Larissa Ione
Series: Demonica #11

Rating Out of 5: 4.5 (Amazing, but not quite perfect)

Thoughts

I love that this is a novella in which Azagoth, or the Grim Reaper makes a random, spontaneous decision, and it ends up great. I mean, he kind of doesn’t really think through the consequences of his choices, but it does work well. And, it made me remember just why I have enjoyed the writing of Ione and the Demonica series in the few novellas I’ve had the privilege to read thus far. Now I need to read one of the full-length novels…

I feel seriously sorry for Liliana in this story – she is seriously given the short end of the stick, and has to suffer for others’ pride. I may not have loved her situation to begin with, but I love that she finds a really good and beautiful happily ever after. Plus, her happy ever after kind of spits in the face of her tormentors, which made it all that much more enjoyable.

I really enjoy the fact that just because characters are angels, they are not actually ‘good’ and vice versa. It’s a great reminder that just because someone ticks all of the boxes, they are not necessarily ‘good’. And, just because someone doesn’t quite fit people’s expectations of the norm, it doesn’t mean that they are ‘bad’.

Dungeon Games: A Master and Mercenaries Novella by Lexi Blake

Overview

Title: Dungeon Games: A Master and Mercenaries Novella
Author: Lexi Blake
In: 1001 Dark Nights: Bundle Two (Lexi Blake, Larissa Ione, Lisa Renee Jones & Cherise Sinclair)
Rating Out of 5: 2 (Managed to read it… just)

Thoughts

I did really want to like this story. In fact, it was well written and I actually loved the characters from the very beginning. The only thing is that I really can’t get into BDSM. I’ve tried multiple times, and I can flirt with certain aspects of it, but ultimately, I just couldn’t quite get into this. Having said that, if Lexi Blake writes something that isn’t BDSM, I’ll probably dive straight into it.
