Thoughts

Irene Conridge is insane, aggressive and I am madly in love with her. She is brutal in a way that I wish I could be, but, you know, I don’t actually want to be quite that isolated. I loved her novella the first time I read it, and if anything, I loved it even more the second time round. Particularly as I can recognise when she shows up more in the rest of Laurenston’s shapeshifting world and series. It’s fun to see how she is pulled into the Pride world with the knowledge of how she is going to shape the future of it all.

I love how Van Holtz chooses to just kind of… follow Irene around like a lost puppy for seven years before he finally decides to make his move. Although, admittedly, he was kind of pushed a little into making a move into their relationship. He’s such a gorgeous and sweet man, and I love how, once he decides to be fixated on one woman, he just calmly pursues her and irritates the absolute dickens out of her with his puppy dog nonsense.

Irene has this insane ability to completely bring the world to its knees. Not just through her scientific talents and ability to literally destroy the world. But, she also has this innate ability to destroy people’s self confidence and feelings of worth. I found this far more fun and hilarious than I probably should have. And honestly, I kind of love that this is a talent, don’t get me wrong, I also appreciate that Irene has the self control and just enough of a conscience to not destroy and everyone and everything, but I kind of love that she is able to.

Now that I’ve read all of the published books in Laurenston’s Shifter World, I have so much more appreciation for how this leads into the greater stories. I particularly loved how the epilogue lead into Go Fetch! and the beginnings of Toni’s life from Wolf with Benefits are highlighted. But honestly, it was Irene’s engagements with Miki and her children in the epilogue that I loved the most.

Thoughts

Irene was a great character to be introduced to in In A Badger Way, she is clinical and terrifyingly brilliant. But you can tell that she actually cares about others, she’s just completely unable to show to, well, anyone. The fact that she has her own novella about falling in love decades before… it was even better than I imagined. Wonderful, funny and kind of sweet. A perfect novella.

As expected, Irene is all sass and attitude. Some of it is just pure personality, but some of it is the fact that she’s pretty protective of her feelings. And, you know, there are apparently multiple government agencies spying on her and watching her every move… all of this just meant that even as Irene falls in love with Niall, she is still sassy and feisty and everything I love in the character.

The wedding that finishes out this story is kind of perfect. I mean, it’s always nice to skip forward a little bit so that you can see how the couple ends up. But the fact that Irene genuinely forgets that its even her wedding day and cares not at all about it, was brilliant. It also pulled in the Jean-Louis Parkers into the story. And how that clan of terrifying geniuses had their beginnings too…

All in all, this was a wonderful novella. And I can’t wait to see what happens next in this story. Definitely a strong argument for continuing to fill my ereader with books by Shelly Laurenston.

Thoughts

It’s always interesting to see how a story will drop you right into the action. In the case of Wicked Ways, this novella starts off with a date gone wonderfully, horrifyingly wrong. Like, seriously bad. But then, because it’s paranormal romance, it gets better and better. Leaving you with a smile on your face and a bit of a spring in your step. I absolutely loved reading this and it’s definitely moved some of my Cynthia Eden books to the top of my TBR priority… until the next amazing story that I read.

I love that as Miranda starts to fall for a shifter man, she is able to accept all of him. There is no gentleness in his Otherness, and she is able to take that on board and just… enjoy his company. I’m all for love stories that involve completely accepting your other half for all of their flaws. Miranda just takes that a step further as she accepts him for all of his… claws.

This novella is a great romantic suspense, with shapeshifters and vampires thrown in. At it’s heart, it’s really a story of two people falling in love as they hunt down a serial killer and sociopath (or is it a psychopath, I get my paths mixed up). The fact that the killer is a vampire and the man hunting him is a cat shapeshifter adds to the drama, blood and adrenaline. But, it’s still a pretty simple and fun romantic suspense novella.

Wicked Ways is yummy and fun. It was a wonderful novella that I thoroughly enjoyed for the steaminess and action. I definitely loved the drama and look forward to more of this in the future of my Cynthia Eden reading.

Thoughts

When He Was Bad is a fantastic anthology with two yummy, steamy novellas. Just like Howl For It. They are both collections that are fun and light. But with a seriously lustful strain throughout. I absolutely adored both of the novellas in this, and I look forward to reading them again when I need a short distraction from reality.

There was honestly so much enjoyment from reading this. I read each novella in one sitting – they were just so good that I didn’t want to put them down. That used to be an impressive feat. Now I have a toddler, and it is more of an accomplishment… at least in my world.

Both the novellas in this anthology are shifter romances. There is plenty of steam and deliciously dominant males. Two worlds that I loved diving into and look forward to getting a glimpse of again.
