Bones Season Three – Review

Bones Season Three4.5 out of 5 stars

Series: Bones
Season: 3
Creator: Hart Hanson
Cast: Emily Deschanel, David Boreanaz, Michaela Conlin
Genres:
Comedy, CrimeDrama
Year: 2007
Favourite Episode: 13 – The verdict in the story & 15 – The Pain in the Heart

The third season of Bones was disappointingly short and left me wanting so much more, but it was still amazing. This was the season of deepening relationships between the characters. The first two seasons introduced our beloved cast and forged the relationships between them. But it was in this year that those relationships became so much more meaningful and deep. Even the Angela – Jack relationship was expanded upon in the form of hunting for her ex-husband.

I loved, loved, loved the introduction of Sweets to the Bones team. As someone who has studied both ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ sciences at University, it was really fun watching that interaction on the TV screen. It was a great way to juxtapose the subjective and objective sides of science (which are present across the board, but don’t get me started). This battle between the sciences also seemed to be further emphasised by the nurturing of the father / son relationship between Booth and Sweets.

The other major thing about this season, at least for me, is the presence of Gormogon. The first time I watched these episodes, I couldn’t sleep. The idea of a ritualistic cannibal is terrifying, probably because it isn’t that far-fetched an idea. I was completely wigged out by this character, and was so glad when he was eventually beaten.
